HUNTINGTOWN - Maryland State Police report that on Monday, November 6, 2006, at approximately 6:30 PM, a fatal motor vehicle crash occurred on Stinnett Road approximately ˝ mile south of MD Rt. 263 (Plum Point Road), Huntingtown, Calvert County, Maryland. Preliminary investigation has determined that Chris M. Whetstone (43 of Huntingtown) and his wife (Kathryn R. Whetstone – 31 of Huntingtown) were traveling south on Stinnett Road in their 2001 Dodge sedan. Mr. Whetstone was driving and Mrs. Whetstone was the single passenger and positioned in the right front seat. Mr. Whetstone failed to safely negotiate a gradual right curve in the roadway and crossed the center line striking a 2002 GMC van operated by Patrick Plant (39 of Prince Frederick). Mr. Whetstone was pronounced dead at the scene. Mrs. Whetstone was transported by Eagle 1 to the Prince George’s County Hospital (Shock Trauma) where, as of this release, she remains in critical condition. Mr. Plant was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he was treated and released.
Crash reconstruction specialist responded to the scene. Stinnett Road was closed for approximately 2.5 hours to facilitate the investigation. This crash investigation is continuing.
