CAUSE DETERMINED IN WALDORF MOBILE HOME BLAZE
INJURED CHILD EXPECTED TO RECOVER
WALDORF, MD (April 27, 2006) -- Deputy State Fire Marshals have determined the cause of an April 20, 2006 mobile home fire that severely injured a Waldorf girl. The 6:13 a.m. blaze at 12212 “B” Gillespie Circle was caused when an electric outlet in a wall ignited and spread to a nearby piece of furniture. The fire quickly extended through the 14’ x 60’ mobile home.
The child, eleven-year-old Tiffani Nicole Tawney, is expected to make a full recovery. Originally discovered when arriving Deputy Sheriffs forced open a rear door to the home, she was initially treated at the Washington Hospital Center and subsequently transferred to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the University of Maryland Hospital in Baltimore.
Nearly fifty firefighters from Waldorf, Westlake, Brandywine, LaPlata, and Accokeek quickly responded and were able to control the fire in fifteen minutes. There were no firefighter injuries. Damages to the home and contents are estimated at $75,000.
