Charges Pending in Head-On Truck Crash

Maryland State Police report that on May 16th at 10:56 AM, a 1995 Ford Escort being operated by James William Edwards, 42 years, of Mechanicsville, was stopped eastbound on MD Rt. 231 attempting to make a left turn onto Teague's Point Road.  A 1997 Mack E7-427 truck being operated by John Warren Parks, 50 years, of Broomes Island, was traveling eastbound on MD Rt. 231 approaching Teague's Point Road when he failed to reduce his speed and struck Mr. Edwards’ vehicle in the rear.  Mr. Edwards’ vehicle was forced into the westbound lane.  A 2003 Mack Granite truck being operated by Robert Lee Kemp, 63 years, of Owings, traveling westbound on MD Rt. 231 took evasive actions, traveled into the eastbound lane and struck Mr. Edwards’ truck head-on.  Mr. Parks received injuries and was flown to Suburban Hospital by Park Police helicopter, Eagle 1.  Mr. Edwards received injuries and was flown to Prince George’s Hospital by Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 2.   Mr. Kemp received injuries and was flown to Prince George’s Hospital by Maryland State Police helicopter, Trooper 7.  Charges are pending.  Tfc. M. Crawford is conducting this investigation.
