Clerk Fires Shot at Armed Robbers
WALDORF --- On May 30 at 10:47 a.m., two men entered Bob’s Trading Company located at 2160 Crain Highway in Waldorf, brandishing handguns. The victim, a 24-year-old Waldorf man, an employee of the business, attempted to take a handgun from one of the suspects.
The victim retrieved a gun from behind the counter and fired one shot that did not strike either suspect.
One suspect gained control of the victim’s gun and struck him in the head with it.
During the struggle, the other suspect broke the glass display case and stole an undetermined amount of jewelry.
Both suspects fled the scene and were last seen on foot heading south behind the 7-Eleven on Old Washington Road in Waldorf, which is located next to Bob’s Trading Company.
The victim was transported to Southern Maryland Hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at 301-609-6515. Det. J. Elliott is investigating.
Store Clerks Sell Booze to Underage Patron Despite Warning on ID
LEONARDTOWN —— According to St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Cpl. Mark Clark, on Saturday 06/10/06, an Alcohol Compliance Check/Underage Alcohol Controlled Buy Operation was conducted by the St Mary’s County Sheriff’s Dept. Senior Deputy First Class Emory Johnson and Deputy First Class Charles Earle along with a twenty year old confidential informant attempted to make purchases at alcohol establishments in St. Mary’s County.
The confidential informant was in possession of a valid Maryland drivers license which stated in red beneath the photograph on the license “ under twenty-one alcohol restricted”.
The informant was instructed to present the identification when asked and to make no false statements about her age.
Attempts to obtain alcoholic beverages were made at seventeen establishments with five of the establishments furnishing an alcoholic beverage to a person known to be under twenty-one.
The establishments that successfully passed the compliance check were: Potomac Gardens, Murphy’s Town and Country Market, Chaptico Market, Stones Store, Fred’s Liquors, New Market Texaco, The Mouse Trap, DJ’s One Stop, Boatman’s Mini Mart, Third Base, Out Back Steak House, and Bay Country Liquors.
The establishments that failed the compliance check were: Capt. Sam’s, Village Liquors, Light House Liquors , Korner Karryout, and Donovan’s Pub. The employees that illegally sold alcoholic beverages to the underage informant were issued civil citations and the establishments that failed the compliance checks will be brought before the Alcohol Board for St. Mary’s County.
Gang of Thugs Attacked and Robbed Man Walking Home
WALDORF --- On June 13 at 10:19 p.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the trail in the 160 block of St. Patrick’s Drive in Waldorf for the report of a robbery. Investigation revealed a 29-year-old Waldorf man was walking home when he was struck in the head with an unknown object, which caused him to fall to the ground. The suspects took the victim’s wallet, money and a check and fled the area on foot. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the suspects. The suspects are described as seven black males between 18 and 20 years of age, all were wearing dark clothing. Teeny Bopper Pot Head Handed Over to Mom
LA PLATA --- On June 7 at 12:50 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 300 block of Goose Creek Drive in La Plata for the citizen’s report of several suspicious juveniles. Investigation revealed one of the juveniles, a 17-year-old La Plata boy, was in possession of a plastic bag containing marijuana. He was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The boy was released to the custody of his mother. Officer L. Payne investigated.
New Home Appliances Cleaned Out by Midnight Building Supply
WALDORF --- Sometime between 3:30 p.m. June 2 and 2:30 p.m. June 3, suspect(s) entered a residence under construction in the 15900 block of Lookout Pass Court in Waldorf and stole almond-colored GE kitchen appliances, including a range, dishwasher, refrigerator and microwave. Boozing Bozo Cornered Badly, Hit Curb and Trees
WALDORF --- On June 4 at 5:40 a.m., Officer R. Kimble of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office responded to St. Patrick’s Drive and Smallwood Drive West in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash. Investigation revealed a Chevrolet 1500 pick-up truck was traveling west on St. Patrick’s Drive when the driver lost control while attempting to negotiate a turn, crossed the center line and struck a curb and several trees. The driver, Francis Clayton Knott, Jr., 22, of Waldorf and his passenger, Michael Donnavon Tabor, 24, of White Plains, fled the scene on foot toward Lancaster Circle. They were found by officers a short time later walking in the area and Knott was found to be intoxicated. Knott was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding and numerous other traffic violations. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Knott and Tabor sustained minor injuries and did not require transportation to a hospital.
Keep the Cocaine and Gun in the Console, Kelvin
BRYANS ROAD --- Charles County Sheriff’s spokesman Kristen Timko reports that on May 13 at 7:22 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Burch Oil located at 8020 Matthews Road in Bryans Road for the citizen’s report of a suspicious occupied vehicle. Officer J. Kelly approached the vehicle and observed cocaine in the center console. When Kelvin Elijah Dickens, 39, of Indian Head, exited the vehicle officers found a handgun between the driver’s seat and center console. Officers ran a check on the handgun and discovered it had been reported stolen in Ohio. Dickens was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of a handgun, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine while in possession of a firearm and theft more than $500. He was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Officers M. Davidson and J. Kelly are investigating.
