Coast Guard Medevacs Two from Cruise Ship |

| PORTSMOUTH, Va. - Two Coast Guard
rescue crews from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., medevaced two people
from the cruise ship Empress of the Seas, 195 miles south east of
Virginia Beach, Va., today.
The Coast Guard was notified shortly after 5 p.m. yesterday, by the ship's medical officer, that two passengers were ill and needed to be medevaced off the ship. The ship changed course during the night and was within range of Coast Guard rescue helicopters late this morning. The patients were transported to Norfolk Sentara Hospital in Norfolk, Va., for further treatment. The names of the patients are being withheld pending next of kin notification |
