Cops Collide
Deputy flown out
after colliding with State Trooper as they responded on a call
to assist another deputy with a fight at roughneck bar.
RIDGE --- With a chimney fire at a
two-story brick building near St. Michael's Church in Ridge and
a crash between two police cars near Robinson-Barnes Bar, it was
a big ending to 2005 in Ridge, a place usually devoid of any
real news for years at a time. But on Saturday, Dec. 31st,
it was different. St. Mary's Sheriff David Zylak told ST.
MARY'S TODAY at about 6 pm that Dfc. David Yingling was being
taken by helicopter from Ridge after he was injured in a wreck
which took place as the deputy and a trooper were responding to
Robinson-Barnes for a disorderly person following an assault.
Zylak said that a person was reported to be knocked out and that
Dfc. Harold Young had responded to the first call and asked for
assistance. Maryland State Police Tfc. Wes Goldston
reports that Tfc. Steven Van Bennekum had responded to the call
to assist the deputy and that Dfc. Yingling had driven too far
south and was making a U-turn when he apparently pulled out into
the path of the trooper. The trooper was reported to
be unhurt. Zylak reports that Dfc. Yingling was able to
remove himself from the wreck and responded on foot to assist
Dfc. Young at the nearby bar and then began to feel the effects
of the wreck. The Robinson-Barnes Bar isn't
too wild if you don't count the murder which took place there at
a Valentines Day party ten years ago.
