Priority Thanks

Dear Governor Ehrlich,

The Town Council and I would like to express our gratitude for the opportunity that your Priority Places designation will afford the Leonardtown Wharf project. We believe that the Leonardtown Wharf revitalization project embodies every aspect that this program was designed to accomplish.

This project will bring back to life the Town’s only waterfront and build on existing public assets. The Town staff has worked closely over the last four years with many state and federal agencies in developing an environmentally sensitive, and much improved, plan for the site. The coordination of State agencies under the Priority Places Program to finalize these plans and obtain permits that will move this project to reality will be a huge benefit to the Town as well as all the citizens of St. Mary’s County.

This project will bring enormous economic development opportunities to Southern Maryland. With funding commitments in place from the Town, County, State and Federal grants, plus private development, this project will showcase the benefit of a public/private partnership.

The Town of Leonardtown is honored to receive the designation as one of Maryland’s first Priority Places. Thank you for your continued commitment of fostering well-planned development and revitalization of our existing communities.
