Whitbeck Wins Important Labor Endorsement in Bid for Delegate
LEONARDTOWN --- Democrat Clare
Whitbeck, in a tight race with incumbent St. Mary's Delegate Johnny Wood, of
Mechanicsville, has picked up yet another important endorsement, with the
support of the Washington DC Building and Construction Trades Council.
Whitbeck has also been endorsed by the teachers unions in St. Mary's and Charles
Counties in her race to become Delegate for
District 29A.
“I am pleased that the Maryland politically leaders of the Building and
Construction Trades Council have chosen me for their candidate,” Whitbeck said.
“They understand that I will work to improve life for working families, and they
will help me do it.” Whitbeck noted that she is also pleased that the Council
has recognized her desire to improve life for all of Maryland’s hardworking
citizens.
Whitbeck received endorsements from the Education Associations of Charles and
St. Mary’s Counties, as well as the Maryland State Teacher’s Association
endorsement.
Wood has been stumbling in recent years, losing an important House committee chairmanship after his patron, former Speaker Cas Taylor was himself defeated for reelection and the new Speaker quickly dumped Wood.
