Deputy Honored for Top Cop
of Quarter

St. Mary's Sheriff's Deputy Sheriff of the Fourth Quarter
of 2004: For the Fourth Quarter of the 2004, Deputy First Class Mark A. Smith
was recognized as Deputy of the Quarter. DFC Smith was assigned to the Southern
Maryland Criminal Justice Academy in April of 2003. After his initial on-the-job
training regarding Academy policy, procedures, goals and vision, he was assigned
as the Class
Coordinator for the Police Entrance Level Training Class 2003-2. Through his
leadership and guidance in this class, two trainees successfully graduated with
an overall class average of 93.8%. He consistently demonstrates to veteran staff
members that he is a devoted officer who thrives on producing the finest
recruits for the respective agencies, a task he continues to complete superbly.
When given an assignment, he makes it a priority and demonstrates consistently
that he can satisfactorily complete tasks assigned with little or no
supervision. DFC Smith is very well organized and takes every assignment
personally, always offering advice and suggestions for improvement. He is a
dedicated and highly loyal member of the Emergency Services Team and the Honor
Guard.
