| Disgusted by
Photos of Fatal Wreck
To the Editor:
My name is Kristin Letle and i would just like to write and
say that i
believe that your "newspaper" is a shameless mix of tabloid filth and
half truth. It disgusts me that you put pictures of a fatal car
accident in your newspaper. As if it wasn't bad enough that families
have to deal with the loss of a loved one. What if the family never
wanted to see the pictures of the crime scene. Me being a
communications major with a concentration in journalism would lead me to
believe that all news is news. However, the inconsideration of human
emotion leads me to believe that you are more worried about making money
than delivering up to the minute news. A fatality grasps readers
whether or not a picture is beside it. If your newspaper ever wishes to
be more than an Enquirer wannabe, rethink your stories, rethink your
writers, and rethink your integrity. Hopefully you sleep as well
knowing you showcased a piece that shattered a family better than i
do.

(Editor's Note: Just in case you really are attending a Maryland university and are not
in 3rd grade, despite your grammar and woefully childish lack of logic, the only response
to your letter to the editor should be two words: grow up.
Your letter and this reply will be included in our online edition and in the
next print edition along with photos of the crash. Reading this newspaper
is a matter of choice and those who do not wish to read it can do just that.
Certainly you have not noticed any photos or video of the Iraq War, the
Asian Tidal Wave or the 9/11 attacks on America in any news coverage anywhere.
But since it is likely you really are in 3rd grade, your parents don't let you look at
such 'tabloid
coverage' and 'half truths' of world events.
And you are right, this is a crime scene. It is a crime that brain dead young people
cannot slow down and
fail to understand the tragedy that they cause to their families when they drink, drive,
speed and die.
It is simply by sheer luck that this driver did not kill her passenger or others on the
roadway. Reckless and drunken driving
is a violent crime, therefore, this photo is of a crime scene at the edge of a public
roadway. If you really are
a "communications major" hurry up and apply at CBS News, they will be glad to
have you.
In the meantime, this newspaper has been conducting a 15-year-long campaign to keep drunk
and speeding drivers off our roads and to save lives. You are challenged to do
something more useful to save lives of young people such as the young woman who died in
this wreck, more than your silly desire to pretend it didn't happen. Had Paula Phillips
listened to the 'tabloid filth and half truths' preached about drunk driving in this
newspaper, she would be alive.) |
