District Man Charged with Arson

UPPER MARLBORO (APRIL 27, 2005) -- The Arson Task Force that has been investigating a series of fires that have occurred in the region since March of 2003 announced today that they have made an arrest in the case. Members of the Arson Task Force arrested Thomas Sweatt, 51 of Washington, DC. He was arrested Wednesday morning, April 27, 2005, in the 6600 block of Marlboro Pike in District Heights.

During an afternoon press conference announcing the arrest, Prince George’s County Fire Chief Lawrence H. Sedgwick Jr. stated, "The Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department is extremely pleased that an arrest has been made of a suspect in the Serial Arson Investigation. I applaud the men and women of our local, state and federal partners that have comprised the Arson Task Force. This extremely talented group of investigators have worked around the clock for nearly two years to bring us to where we are today". He concluded by saying, "I acknowledge and thank the citizens and residents for their being vigilant throughout this investigation and for providing information to our fire investigators by using the Arson Tip Line".
