Doctor Charged with Sexual Assault of Two Women;
Three Others Made Prior Reports

WHITE PLAINS --- The Charles County Sheriff's Department reports that they served a criminal summons on Dr. Waheed Uddin Akthar, 54, of La Plata on June 17 for allegedly sexually assaulting two of his patients at his White Plains office.
The investigation began on June 9 when a 21-year-old La Plata woman reported she visited Akthar's office for treatment when he allegedly sexually assaulted her. Further investigation revealed Akthar allegedly sexually assaulted another 21-year-old La Plata woman during an office visit on October 27, 2003.
Prior to this investigation, three other female victims between the ages of 17 and 28 have reported similar incidents of assault. No charges were filed in those cases because the statute of limitations had expired, but the Sheriff's detectives still urge any additional victims to come forward and report the crime, regardless of when it occurred.
Akthar was charged via a criminal summons with two counts of Second Degree Assault and two counts of Fourth Degree Sex Assault.
Det. J. Budd and B. Voorhaar are investigating. Other victims who wish to come forward may contact the Sheriff's Office at 301-932-2222 or Detectives Budd and Voorhaar at 301-609-6508 or 609-6488.
