Eleanor Reeves Mattingly, 100,

Eleanor Reeves Mattingly, 100, of Mechanicsville, MD died in Mechanicsville, MD on September 20, 2004. Born March 8, 1904 in Chaptico, MD she was the daughter of the late Katherine L. Reeves and Thomas Garner Reeves, Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband William Sylvester Mattingly on October 4, 1982. They were married in Hollywood, MD on December 23, 1936. She is survived by her son William Reeves Mattingly and his wife Catherine of Mechanicsville, MD and grandchildren Richard Reeves Mattingly of Mechanicsville, MD and Donna Lee Karlsons of Silver Spring, MD.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers Thomas B. Reeves, Horace P. Reeves, Thomas G. Reeves and her sister Annie E. Brobst. Mrs. Mattingly was a graduate of St. Mary’s Female Seminary Class of 1921 and Towson State Normal School Class of 1923 where she earned a Teaching Degree. She was a life long St. Mary’s County resident and worked as a School Teacher for the St. Mary’s County School System for 42 years. She was a member of the St. Mary’s County Retired Teachers Association. The family will receive friends today, Wednesday, September 22 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home with Prayers being said at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 23, at 10:00 AM in Christ Episcopal Church in Chaptico, MD with Rev. Jessee Neat officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brad Reeves, Steve Reeves, Peter Wigginton, Robert Burroughs, Tommy Reeves and William R. Burroughs. Contributions may be made to Mechanicsville Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 15, Mechanicsville, MD 20659 and/or Christ Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 8, Chaptico, MD 20621.
