Services:A Funeral Service will be held at the Lexington Park Methodist Church, Lexington Park, MD on Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Joseph Hoopengardner officiating. Interment will follow in Ebenezer Cemetery, Chancellors Run Road.

Visitation:Public Viewing/Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 from 5 - 8 PM with prayers being said at 7:00 PM.
Emerson Melville Chesser, 91, of Lexington Park, MD died on June 27, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, MD. Born April 11, 1913 in St. Georges Island, MD, he was the son of the late Verona Edna Chesser and Howard Jerome Chesser. He married Laura Latham Chesser in December of 1989 and was previously married to Hazel Potter Chesser for 54 years, from 1934 until her death in April of 1988. He was the loving father of Joan Carol Rochelle of Hunt Valley, MD, Karen Lynn Carter and Scott Patrick Chesser both of Lexington Park, MD and Susan Elizabeth Taylor of Grapevine, TX. He is survived by 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was the brother of Wendell Chesser of Virginia, Anna Tinsley of Missouri and Ralph Chesser of Florida. He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Emerson Chesser. Mr. Chesser was a life long St. Mary’s County resident ;where he was an Engineering Technician in the Civil Service for the Dept. of Navy at the NATC, Patuxent River, MD and retired in June of 1976 after 33 years of service. He belonged to the Masonic Temple Organization and his hobbies were gardening, fishing, crabbing and singing. The family will receive friends today Wednesday, June 30, 2004 from 5:00PM – 8:00PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, where prayers will be held at 7:00PM. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 1, 2004 at 10:00 AM in the Lexington Park Methodist Church with Reverend Kenneth Walker and Reverend Joseph Hoopengarner officiating. Interment will follow at Ebenezer Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Chesser will be Mark Chesser, Frank DiGiovine, Todd Carter, Troy Carter, Ryan Carter and Kevin Chesser.
