Evelyn Freeman Kelly, 82, of California, MD, died on Monday, April 11, 2005 in Alexandria, VA.

Born on July 9, 1922 in Hamlet, NC, she was the daughter of the late George Jefferson Freeman and Bessie Peele Freeman. She was a graduate of Hamlet High School in Monroe, NC. During World War II, she worked for the Department of the Navy at the Navy Yard in Washington, D.C. In 1951 she and her husband moved to St. Mary’s County. They opened and operated Park Jewelers from 1952 until 1994. She was a member of the Lexington Park United Methodist Church, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Julia Hall Chapter 107 for 50 years and an election supervisor judge.

Mrs. Kelly is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Kelly of Cranford, NJ, a son, Lauchlin A. Kelly III of Alexandria, VA, three grandchildren and a sister, Mildred Martin of Heartsville, SC. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lauchlin Archibald Kelly on August 16, 1996, a sister, Elizabeth Freeman, and two brothers, George Jefferson Freeman II and William Cope Freeman.

The family will receive friends on Friday, April 15, 2005 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. An Eastern Star service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. in the Lexington Park United Methodist Church. The Reverend Ken Walker will conduct the service. Interment will follow in the Charles Memorial Gardens in Leonardtown, MD.
