Fayrene Mattingly, 82, of Leonardtown, MD died June 10, 2005 in Washington Hospital Center. Born November 8, 1922 in Corsicana, Texas, she was the daughter of the late Albert S. Hallmark and Lala Hallmark Carroll. She was preceded in death by her husband James Virgil “Booker” Mattingly, Sr. on July 6, 1992 in Leonardtown, MD whom she married on April 26, 1943. She is survived by her children: James Virgil Mattingly, Jr. of Arlington, VA, Katherine Fayrene Frazier, John Andrew Mattingly, Rosemary Cox and Patricia Wise Robrecht all of Leonardtown, MD; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Joe Hallmark, Pat Hallmark, Max Hallmark, Billy John Hallmark and Laline Hallmark Williams. Mrs. Mattingly was a resident of St. Mary’s County for 66 years. Fayrene and her husband Booker owned and operated the “Ideal Cleaners” for many years. In 1960 Fayrene opened the “Fashion Center” in Leonardtown and later another store in Lexington Park. These stores remained opened until her retirement in 1995. She was a member until her death of the Women’s Club, the Hospital Auxiliary and the St. Paul’s Methodist Church Women’s Club. She served as President on each one of these. She also served on the St. Mary’s Hospital Board of Directors and was the first woman mayor of Leonardtown and was instrumental in the drive to keep the court house in Leonardtown. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 13, 2005 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Leonardtown, MD, with Prayers being said at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2005 at 10:00 AM in St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Leonardtown, MD with Pastor Stan Cardwell officiating. Interment will follow in Charles Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Jeffery Frazier, John Mattingly, Jim Jim Robrecht, Christopher Cox, David Mattingly and Ford Connelly.
