Heroes at work: St. Leonard, Prince Frederick and Solomon's fire and rescue volunteers fight to save man's life on Aug 17th.
St. Leonard:

Motorcyclist Killed
When He Blew Red Light
A Pennsylvania man was riding his 1997 Yamaha motorcycle south on Rt. 4 Saturday afternoon at Ball Road when State Police say that he failed to stop for a red light and struck the right front of Toyota pickup operated by James King.  Police say King was not at fault and not injured.   State Trooper D. Carter reports that Paul Randolph Wilmore, 55, of Quakertown, Pa, was ejected from his bike and landed on the southbound side shoulder of the highway.   Wilmore was aided by volunteers from the St. Leonard Fire and Rescue and more volunteers from the Advanced Life Support Unit as well as Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department.  All efforts to save Wilmore's life, including CPR being administered, were employed but to no avail.  A State Police helicopter set down on the southbound lanes of the highway and doom covered the prospects of the man surviving when the chopper cut off it's engines, leaving little hope for the continuing attempt to save his life. Rt. 4 was shut down for several hours and police directed traffic onto the old highway, Rt. 765, but failed to station an officer at the next intersection where southbound traffic attempted to blend back out on Rt. 4 but were stymied due to the lack of any police control.  The failure of police to control the detour properly led to an unnecessary delay and increased the chances of yet another crash.
