Five Injured When Bozo Blew Red Light
(April 18, 2005) --- On Saturday, April
16, 2005, at approximately 3:10 am, the operator of a 1999 Volkswagen traveling
westbound on Franklin Street, NE, collided with a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer that
was traveling northbound on 13th Street, NE, at the intersection of 13th and
Franklin Streets, NE. The Mountaineer then struck a utility pole and a tree
before it rolled over.
Consequently, one passenger was ejected and two passengers were partially
ejected from the SUV. The passenger who was fully ejected was transported to the
Washington
Hospital Center’s MedSTAR Unit, where he was admitted in critical condition.
The passengers who were partially ejected were transported to area hospitals for
treatment of apparently non-life-threatening injuries, as were the drivers of
both motor vehicles.
The crash occurred when the operator of the Mercury Mountaineer evidently passed
a vehicle waiting at a traffic signal and ran a red light, crossing the path of
the Volkswagen, which had a green light signal and the right of way. The
operator of the Mountaineer, identified as 21-year-old Christopher Tully, of the
100 block of Michigan Avenue, NE, has been charged with Aggravated Assault. He
is scheduled to be arraigned in DC Superior Court. Additional traffic-related
charges are pending.
This case is under investigation by members of the Metropolitan Police
Department’s Major Crash Investigations Unit.
