Four Escape Fire in Townhouse
GREENBELT --- Firefighters and Paramedics from the Greenbelt area were alerted for a townhouse fire on Wednesday, September 1, 2004. Fire/EMS units were alerted at about 6:00 PM for a fire in a townhouse at 8148 Mandan Terrace in the Greenwood Village, Greenbelt. Upon arrival, heavy fire consumed the rear of a 2-story with basement, end of the row townhouse. The fire appears to have started on the ground level and extended up through the walls and rear exterior of the townhouse eventually burning into the attic area. There were two adults and 2 children at home when the fire started and escaped unharmed prior to the fire departments arrival. A precautionary second alarm was sounded as the fire started to spread to the attached townhouse. Thirty-four firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire and limit the amount of extension to attached townhomes. The cause of the fire is under investigation and damage estimates have been estimated at $75,000. The County Office of Emergency Management and Red Cross are assisting two families that are displaced as a result of this fire.
