Frances Wathen Owens,

Frances Wathen “Frannie” Owens, 65, of Leonardtown, MD, died on Sunday, September 26, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.

Born on March 5, 1939 in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of the late George R. and Margaret Belle Yates Wathen. She was a 1957 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy in Leonardtown, MD, a member of the Ladies of Charity of St. Michael’s Church, Ridge, MD, Catholic Daughters of Father Andrew White, the Leonardtown Lioness Club, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #255 in Ridge, MD, St. Mary’s County Democratic Club, Election Board of St. Mary’s, National Cosmetologist Association, and a Eucharistic Minister at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Frannie owned and operated her beauty salon from May 1974 until April 2004.

She is survived by two children, Rebecca J. “Becky” Wathen of St. Inigoes, MD and Bradley S. Owens of Lexington Park, MD, two grandchildren, Cody Owens and J.W. Wathen, four sisters, Mary Rita Delozier of Compton, MD, Catherine Ann Hayden, Ramona Hayden and Alice Cromwell all of Leonardtown, MD. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Grace Mattingly and Ruth “Becky” Proffitt and three brothers, James G. Wathen, Sr., Robert C. Wathen and Roger Wathen.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 29, 2004 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Leonardtown, MD. Catholic Daughter prayers will be recited at 5:30 p.m. and family prayer will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, September 30, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Church. Interment will follow in Old St. Aloysius Catholic Church Cemetery.
