Frank Abell's Steakhouse Owner Dead at 94

James Franklin “Frank” Abell, 94, of Mechanicsville, MD, died on February 26, 2005 at his residence.

Born on September 15, 1910, he was the son of the late John Fulton and Noema Wathen Abell. He worked as a salesman for the National Biscuit Company, owned and operated J. Frank Abell Vending from 1954 until the present, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Past President of the Mechanicsville Lions Club, Past President of the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department. Frank was a commissioner with the Tri-State Thoroughbred Racing Association. He owned the Frank Abell’s Steak House and the Benedict Pier.

He is survived by four daughters, Lois Ann Abell Fowler of Hughesville, MD, Diane Dunbar Abell Delahay of Leonardtown, MD, Sara Ann Abell Brown of Roseville, CA and Faye Cecilia Abell Reid of Waldorf, MD, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, three sisters, Marie Abell Bassford of Annapolis, MD, Loretta Abell “Tiny” Taylor of St. Mary’s City, MD and Sister Sara Ann Abell, S.C.N. of Louisville, KY, sister-in-law, Shirley Abell of Compton, MD and three dedicated caregivers, Dorothy Fenwick, Dorothy Goldring and Charles Fenwick. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucie Ann Dunbar Abell, three brothers, Walter B. Abell, Perry Abell, Buster Abell, and three sisters, Catherine Abell Colonna, Sister Lucina Maria Abell, S.C.N. and Sister Alberta Maria Abell, S.C.N.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 1, 2005 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. Prayers will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Mechanicsville, MD. The Reverend Peter Alliata will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Aloysius Gonzaga Church Cemetery, Leonardtown, MD.

Serving as pallbearers will be Glenn B. Delahay, C. Allan Delahay, J. Frank Fowler, William R. Fowler, Frank O. Fowler and Wayne Tucker.
