Gerald “Jerry” Russell Taylor

Gerald “Jerry” Russell Taylor, 70, of Leonardtown, MD,
died on Saturday, March 13, 2004 at his residence.

Born on April 13, 1933 in Terra Alta, WV, he was the son of the late Russell McKinley Taylor and Marie Inez Swiger Taylor. He was the husband of Celia Hawes Taylor, whom he married in 1993 in Chaptico, MD. He is also survived by his two sons from his first marriage to the late Roma Faye Shockley Taylor: Scott D. Taylor of Mt. Airy, NC and Gregory G. Taylor of New Braunfels, TX and their wives Sandy S. Taylor and Margaret W. Taylor, respectively, and three grandchildren, Briana B. Taylor, Jordan C. Taylor and Hallie E. Taylor, 5 step-grandchildren, and 3 step- great grandchildren. He was also step- parent to Geoffrey P. Jugel of Bowie MD.

Mr. Taylor is also survived by his sister, Doris A. Long of Frederick, MD and nephews, Dennis P. Long of Stafford, VA, Robert G. Long and Kenneth J. Long of Frederick, MD and Jeffrey B. Long of Brunswick, MD.

Mr. Taylor graduated from McKinley High School in Washington, DC in 1951. He was employed with the Department of the Army, Ordnance Development Division in Maryland. He served in the U.S. Army from January 6, 1954 until his honorable discharge on January 5, 1956. He then attended the Capitol Radio Engineering Institute in Washington, D.C., earning an Associate Degree in Radio Engineering. Mr Taylor was employed with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD from 1967 until his retirement in 1996 with 29 years of service. He was the recipient of many awards, honors and accolades during his years of service with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center as a Senior Electronics Technician.

Mr. Taylor moved with his wife from Rockville, MD to St. Mary’s County in 1996 after his retirement. He enjoyed photography, travel, woodworking, boating, camping, his farm tractors, gardening and trains, as well as spending time with family and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 24, 2004 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. A Funeral Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening in the funeral home chapel. Father William J. Neat, Pastor of Christ Episcopal Church in Chaptico, MD will conduct the service.
Inurnment will be on Thursday, March 25, 2004 at 3 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery.
