Governor Ehrlich Declares
Limited State of Emergency for Cecil and Harford Counties
ANNAPOLIS – Due to recent storms and severe flooding in Cecil and Harford counties
that threatened lives and property, Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., on Thursday, July
15th, declared a Limited State of Emergency in those counties.
The declaration brings necessary elements of the Maryland National Guard to State
activation, and mobilizes other State resources to assist citizens in those counties in
coping with the impacts from this storm. These resources will be coordinated through the
State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) in Reisterstown.
“Monday’s floods severely damaged roads, buildings and other public and
private property,” said Governor Ehrlich. “A limited state of emergency is the
best course of action to assist the citizens of Cecil and Harford counties and make State
resources available to them.”
In addition to activating the Maryland National Guard and tasking other state
departments and agencies to assist, the declaration is a necessary first step for any
possible future request for federal assistance.
The governments of Harford and Cecil Counties requested State assistance.
