ANNAPOLIS Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr., last week appointed Robert A. Rohrbaugh State Prosecutor for the State of Maryland. Rohrbaugh was nominated by the State Prosecutor Selection and Disabilities Commission and appointed by the Governor for a six-year term. The appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
I am pleased to appoint Robert Rohrbaugh, who has been determined by a selection commission to be most qualified as State Prosecutor, said Governor Ehrlich. He brings high ethical standards and a respect for the law to this important position. I am confident he will further the best interests of the citizens of Maryland.
Mr. Rohrbaugh is currently in private practice in Rockville, where his areas of expertise include product liability cases of child restraints. He served as Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Maryland from 1974 to 1980. During that time he tried approximately 30 major felony cases, including the first major computer fraud prosecution in the country. In 1997, he took leave from a successful private practice career to serve as Deputy Chief Counsel/Senior Investigative Counsel to the U.S. House Government Reform and Oversight Committee. In that capacity he led approximately fifteen attorneys in the investigation of alleged illegal campaign contributions from foreign sources and conducted the inquiry of witnesses during congressional hearings on the matter.
Mr. Rohrbaugh earned his B.A. in Economics from Wittenburg University in Ohio in 1969 and his J.D. from American University Law School in Washington, D.C. in 1972. He and his wife, Linda, are residents of Brinklow in Montgomery County. They have two daughters.
The State Prosecutor investigates certain criminal offenses, including State election law violations, State public ethics law violations, State bribery law violations involving public officials or employees, and misconduct in office by public officials or employees, as well as other offenses.
