Helen Lucille Foster

Helen Lucille Foster, 82, died February 18, 2005 at her home in Valley Lee, MD. Born April 23, 1922 in Washington, D.C., she was the eldest child of the late Joseph Earl and Dorothy Lucille Richards of Valley Lee, MD. She is survived by her beloved son, Charles Robert Foster and his wife Virginia of Valley Lee; two granddaughters and their husbands: Amber Lee and Charles Wood of Valley Lee and Jamie Ann and Jeff Daigle of Montross, VA and, her sister, Audrey Veronica Yates of Valley Lee as well as numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles “Pete” Foster and a brother, Joseph Earl Richards, Jr. Mrs. Foster was educated at Anacostia High School in Washington, D.C. and was an active member of Assumption Church, where she was married in 1947. She was employed at the Navy Yard as an executive assistant and later at the Naval Research Laboratory. She left her position as the Office Manager in the Photography Department to become a full time homemaker. Her hobbies and interests included spending time with her family, baking, playing cards and bingo and attending Church dinners. Mrs. Foster became an active supporter of Holy Face Church and Little Flower School after moving to Valley Lee in 1978. She continued baking and playing cards, but bingo was replaced with the nightly lottery and reading. In recent years, she was a member of St. George’s Catholic Church in Valley Lee which she attended regularly until her illness made it no longer possible. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 10:30 AM on Friday, February 25, 2005 in St. Georges Catholic Church in Valley Lee where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 AM with Father Mark Ervin officiating. Interment will follow in the Maryland Veteran’s Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. Contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s, P. O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
