Indian Police Officers to be Honored at Ceremony
On Wednesday, September 22nd, at 2 p.m., the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund will hold a ceremony at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial to honor Native American Peace Officers, past and present, and their contribution to public service.

 

The ceremony will host a variety of speakers, presenters, and performers, including a special message from W. Ralph Basham, Director of the United States Secret Service.  The Honorable Senator Ben Nighthorse Campbell, (R-CO), will honor Native American Officers who have died in the line of duty. 

 

In addition to these speakers, the Honorable Arlen Quetawki, Governor of the Zuni Tribe will deliver the ceremony’s invocation; Peter J. Maybee, President, National Native American Law Enforcement Association, Member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, will deliver opening remarks for the event; Rebekah Revels, Miss North Carolina 2002 & Miss USA World 2002, Member of the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, will sing the National Anthem; and the Honorable Howard Richards, Chairman, Southern Ute Indian Tribe, will present a Roll Call of Honor.  The United States Border Patrol will open the ceremony with the Presentation of Colors, and will close it by playing “Taps” followed by the Retreat of Colors
