--- Jack Russell trounced Hewitt for Commissioner President,

Evans stumbled bad in 3rd place
The voters in the Democratic Primary went all out for the one candidate who campaigned against the unrestricted and uncontrolled growth policies of the outgoing Republican Commissioner President Tommy McKay.  The vote for Jackie Russell doesn't bode well for developer candidate Joe St. Clair, the recent Planning Commission Chairman who quit his post due to all of his ties to the local developers.   Mike Hewitt and Merl Evans were the darlings of the developers and waterman Russell got a big endorsement from the voters who have now tipped their hand to the politicians that they are fed up with the congestion, the traffic, the overcrowded schools and the lack of progress being made at bringing in commuter rail to the region in order to relieve the congestion on local roads.

Prediction:
Zylak Mortally Wounded in Tight Primary;
Will Go Down to Defeat in November

Democratic Primary results for Sheriff:
Zylak 4,065
Somerville 3,880
LEONARDTOWN --- Darryl Somerville would have won had he bothered to run a serious race for Sheriff, instead he ran the campaign of a shoeshine boy rather than standing up like his dad did in 1978 and work hard.  Darryl was more worried about displeasing Zylak, who won't be his boss, than telling the voters the truth about the poor job that Zylak and his wife have been doing in running the Sheriff's Department.  If the best that incumbent Sheriff David Zylak can do is beat a deputy who ran no campaign at all, by less than 300 votes, then he is doomed against a topflight and well qualified opponent: Republican Tim Cameron.   Somerville's embarrassing appearance before the League of Women Voters included his pressing his qualifications for Sheriff as including his ability to type and to drive a truck.  Zylak recently promoted a female deputy but too bad that this deputy falsified official reports and then lied about it.  Deputy Cara Grumbles should have been fired but this is St. Mary's County, the land of the flask, the fiddle and the dark roasted possum and she only lied about the disposition of property from the police storage unit which was stolen by deputies. ...and the victim was a black drug dealer... so it was okay....Zylak is an idiot and will be the first one-term sheriff since Larry Williams was defeated in 1974 when he ran for re-election.

Key Race results for St. Mary's County

Campaign workers for Judge Candidate Shane Mattingly work the intersection of Rt. 235 and Chancellors Run Road on election day enticing voters to speed to the nearest polling place and cast their ballot for their candidate.  The appointed judge, Mike Stamm, is attempting to hold on the very comfortable seat on the circuit court as former States Attorney George Sparling and Mattingly challenge him in the Democratic and Republican primaries.
