Lou Hennessey Appointed
District Court Judge

ANNAPOLIS --- (Jan 6, 2005) Del. William Louis Hennessey (R. La Plata) was appointed to the District Court of Maryland by Governor Robert Ehrlich this week.  Hennessey, a former District police detective, went to law school in his spare time and began the practice of law in 1998 with an office in Charles County.  In 2002 he ran a tight race as the GOP candidate for States Attorney losing to Len Collins.  After the 2003 appointment of Tim Hutchins to the governor's cabinet, Hennessey was appointed to fill out the remainder of Hutchins term in the House of Delegates. Hennessey, who's father-in-law is a member of the Democratic Central Committee, enjoyed strong support from the Governor, who balked at the list sent to him by the Charles County Bar Association. A new list including Hennessey's name was sent to the Governor in November.  Hennessey was a high profile homicide detective in Washington, D.C., often appearing on the evening news.  Hennessey was the target of killers who attacked his office in the DC Police headquarters on Indiana Ave. and killed his fellow detective and two FBI agents in 1993. Hennessey was in a running battle with the DC Police Chief, Larry Soulsby.  Soulsby was later mired in a ethics probe and was fired, giving vindication to Hennessey.

In danger every time they respond to a fire call...firefighters from all over St. Mary's responded in December to aid those from King George, PG and Calvert as they aided Charles County companies in putting out the massive fire at Hunters Brooke, now the local heroes who risk their lives to assist others once again were called upon to leave the safety of their homes in the middle of the night to respond to a fire which was deliberately set.  Firefighters and the public are at risk when units are underway to a fire as well as the dangers associated with being on a fire scene.  ST. Gang of Gunmen Rob
Shellmart at
North Gate of NAS

LEXINGTON PARK (Jan. 17, 2005) --- Four black males armed with a handgun robbed the Pegg Road Shellmart located at the North Gate of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station right about midnight. The hapless gang of gun-toting heathens might regret having robbed this store right after it began snowing on Sunday evening....tracks in the snow and more as the first trooper on the scene has a K-9 dog with him.... Police broadcast a lookout for 4 black males about 20, with white tee shirts wrapped around their heads and carrying Newport cigarettes....Cool, or Kool Cats!  The white tee shirts wrapped around their heads ought to be a clue to someone that they are either armed robbers or just kinda short on proper headgear for snow storms....
The combined task force of State Police and St. Mary's Sheriff's Detectives, known as the BCI, are investigating this robbery.  Tips can qualify bearers of information for as much as $1,000 from Crimesolvers. so rat out that tee-shirt head and make some cold hard cash.  Call 301-475-4200 ext. 1962 for Sgt. Delmar Smith with your tip, send a robber to jail and make money to pay your rent!

HOLLYWOOD (Jan. 30, 2005) --- A US Naval Officer and his girlfriend were killed Saturday night on Rt. 245 just south of Hollywood when he was going too fast, lost control of his vehicle and crossed the center line of the highway into the path of a pickup truck which T-boned him at the driver's door, killing him on impact.  His passenger was taken to St. Mary's Hospital, as Med-Evac helicopters were down due to bad weather, according to St. Mary's Sheriff's Sgt. Theodore Belleavoine, who reconstructed the crash. The passenger died a few hours later.  Both the U.S. Navy Officer, who was 37 years old and his girlfriend lived at Solomon's. They were identified as Lt. Commander Denis Gerald Tri and Tricia K. Goken.  Charles D. Woodburn, of Leonardtown, was operating the 1986 Dodge pickup. Woodburn was treated for minor injuries at St. Mary's Hospital.
Sgt. Belleavoine reports that Woodburn, according to witnesses, was following a salt truck and had allowed a lot of distance between his vehicle and the SHA truck when Tri's vehicle crossed the center line.

Total Loss. Fire ripped through an antique shop on Rt. 5.  Photo courtesy of Mechanicsville Vol. Fire Dept.
CHARLOTTE HALL (Jan. 21, 2005)   ---- State fire marshal investigators "are investigating the close geographic proximity of three recent fires believed to be cases of arson and the method of setting the fires," said State Deputy Fire Marshal W. Faron Taylor.
With two fires set at within 15 minutes of each other this week, one on Tuesday and the other on Thursday, and only a block apart, residents of the area should be sleeping with one eye open or a family member standing guard.
The old brick house, formerly the home of the late Elliott Burch Sr., founder of Burch Oil Company and St. Mary's Commissioner President, was totally destroyed in a fire early today.  The building had been used as a headquarters for the Southern Maryland Drug Task Force, before it was disbanded when St. Mary's Sheriff Richard Voorhaar pulled his detectives out of the tri county effort.  Next, the building housed offices of the Walden drug counseling center and recently had housed an antique shop.  Two off duty firefighters first reported the fire which they discovered as they drove by on Rt. 5 on their way to work.  Two St. Mary's Deputies joined them in their effort to make sure no one was inside the structure.  Firefighters from all over the area assisted Mechanicsville in the effort to put out the blaze.  This is the third arson fire in the past week in Charlotte Hall.  A garage was set afire as well as a vacant building.   Tips on these fires can be given over the Arson Hotline at
800-492-7529 .  Cash rewards can be used to pay for a house payment or a car payment or even a vacation.

Dropped in Loot Case...

LEONARDTOWN  (Jan. 19, 2005) After last week's not guilty verdict in the case against Wendell Ford, Robert Moreland, the Special Prosecutor, who has soaked up more than $25,000 in taxpayer funds for his misadventure in corruption cover-up for those who stole a tractor trailer load of building materials from the St. Mary's Sheriff's headquarters, has dropped charges against the last of Ford's co-defendants, making this a clean sweep of no convictions.  Moreland was appointed by the court due to Fritz recusing himself, after he was told to do so by the State Prosecutor.  Fritz's campaign treasurer is the wife of the man who allowed the loot to disappear from police custody.  Meanwhile, watch for the civil case to heat up and the taxpayers to lose even more.  When you see St. Mary's Sheriff Dave Zylak, ask him: "Where's the Loot?"

Democrats Dying Off
at Rate of 5 to 1 Over GOP

LEONARDTOWN (Jan. 17, 2005) ---Democratic Party members who are registered voters aren't leaving their party in record numbers due to moving to Florida or changing to the GOP, they are simply dying in order to quit being associated with Hillary Clinton or John Kerry.  According to the St. Mary's Election office, 27 Democrats died in December and were removed from voter rolls compared to 6 Republicans, which ought to cheer up Tommy "Hambone" McKay as he prepares to run for the State Senate against Senator Roy Dyson.  Republicans, however, are 1/3 more likely to go to jail, as 2 Democrats were removed from voter rolls compared to 3 Republicans, a harbinger for McKay as details of his sleazy land deal known as Hambone Hamlet continue to leak out. There are now a total of 21,677 Democrats in St. Mary's County, 19,801 Republicans, 7,291 who hate both parties equally and decline to affiliate and 563 Independents.   There are 99 whackos who list themselves members of the Green Party.
