Jerry Rufus, Jr
Jerry Rufus, Jr., known to many as Jerome, of Hollywood, Maryland died on June 28, 2004 at
the VA Medical Center in Washington, DC. He was 60 years old.
Born March 21, 1944 in Dallas, Texas to the late Leola and Jerry Rufus, Sr. He attended
elementary school in Texas until the family moved to Bakersfield, California. After his
schooling, Mr. Rufus served his country diligently in the United States Navy from 1962 to
1965. He spent most of his tour on the USS WASP were he learned the art of fueling and
de-fueling aircrafts. After he was Honorably Discharged, he chose to live on the east
coast.
Mr. Rufus met and married Margaret Curtis in October 27, 1963. To this blessed union God
gave the gift of a son, Rodney Roosevelt Rufus. Mr. Rufus gave his life to Christ and
joined the Lighthouse Full Gospel Mission Church and served on the Deacon Board under the
leadership of Pastor Joseph Whitfield and Assistant Pastor Michele Leak. Regardless of the
paths he chose during his life, Mr. Rufus was and will always be Gods Child.
In addition to his parents, his sister Melba and brother Howard preceded Mr. Rufus in
death.
In addition to his wife and son, Mr. Rufus is survived by a daughter-in-law Gloria;
grandchildren Faith and Quentin; sisters Barbara Greenberry, Kim Rufus and Donna Rufus; a
very special friend Trudy; a host of many relatives, friends and associates.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 from 11AM until time of the Homegoing
Celebration at 12Noon at the Brinsfield-Echols Funeral Home, P.A. 30195 Three Notch Road
Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Officiating the services will be Pastor Michele Leak and
Reverend James Diggs. Interment to follow at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery with military
honors.
