Kent Albert McGraw
US Navy Viet Nam War Veteran
Kent Albert McGraw, LIC USN (Ret), 77, of Great Mills,
MD, died on May 25, 2005 in the Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA.
Born on July 3, 1927 in Willamette, OR, he was the son of the late Virgil and
Beulah Hancock McGraw. Mr. McGraw served his country in the U.S. Navy for
twenty-two years. During his final tour of duty at the Naval Reconnaissance and
Technical Support Center, he was assigned to the Printing Branch, Publications
Division, Technical Services Department. Upon transfer to the Fleet Reserve, he
climbed the ladder of advancement. His duty assignments included such ships and
assignments as the USS SUMNER (AGS-36); USS PORTAGE (PCE-902); Commander- 14th
Naval District; Commander-Service Forces, Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii;
Naval Air Station, Moffett Field, Sunnydale, CA; Communications Station, Pearl
Harbor, Hawaii; USS BRYCE CANYON (AD-30), Navy and Marine Publicity Bureau,
Philadelphia, PA; USS ESTES (AGC-12); Naval Air Station, Patuxent River, MD; USS
KITTY HAWK (CVA-63) and Naval Support Activity, Saigon, Republic of Viet Nam.
His hobbies were wood working, fishing, camping and drinking a few beers.
Mr. McGraw is survived by two daughters, Belinda G. Hooker of Hughesville, MD,
Carol A. Bain of Frederick, MD, two sons, Albert K. McGraw and Daniel L. McGraw
both of Great Mills, MD, eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. In
Addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Neva Anna McGraw
on June 21, 1979.
The family will receive friends on June 2, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
in the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. A Prayer Service will
be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be on June 17, 2005 in Arlington
National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.
