La Plata VFD Decides to Get Rid of Kid Stuff and Grow Up
LA PLATA --- What a difference a few months make. The La Plata Volunteer Fire Department is advertising another firehouse party, this one on New Year's Eve. But instead of the beer bash that they had planned last summer, this one promotes staying at discounted rates at local hotels, advertises a "Sober Ride Home" and promises that identification will be checked and no one under 21 will be allowed to enter.
They even note a shuttle will be available to take attendees back and forth between the dance and the hotels.
All of this is a far cry from the summer bash that they had sponsored in August in which one person was stabbed, persons under 21 were allowed to attend and beer logos were included on the ad superimposed over the firehouse.
Maybe the change of heart has something to do with the mystery surrounding how the chief's car got wrecked recently in Prince George's County.
