Obama’s
Miscalculation
To the Editor:
Sen. Obama’s miscalculation in choosing Sen. Joe
Biden as a Vice President candidate was magnified when Sara Palin
was selected as Sen. McCain’s running mate.
Biden’s credentials will not pass scrutiny when
people learn he was caught cheating on an exam while at Syracuse Law
School. It so happens I attended graduate school at Syracuse in the
mid sixties and managed to graduate without cheating. Character is
the most important asset a candidate can bring to the ticket.
Biden’s selection will not bolster Obama’s
ticket.
An enormous blunder was made by not choosing
Hillary as his running mate. Obama failed to make a political
decision and instead chose a senator known only for his foreign
affairs credentials. With Hillary at his side, he would have
solidified the party, captured the loyal women’s vote and built a
formidable coalition
of independents and first time voters. Notwithstanding the suffering
he would have to endure with Bill and Hillary in the west wing, he
would nevertheless be in the White House. President Kennedy chose
LBJ in 1960 not because they were close friends but because it was
politically expedient to do so to carry the south.
How did McCain counter? He chose a Washington
outsider who happens to be a women. What a brilliant move. McCain is
the great beneficiary of Obama’s miscalculation and he should carry
the day on November 4th.

Help Be a Voice for
Nursing Center
To the Editor:
The next meeting of the St. Mary’s Nursing Center
Family Council will be held in the Board Room, on Wednesday,
September 10th at 6:30 PM at the nursing center.
The Family Council meets every month to form a
collective voice on behalf of residents, family caregivers and
friends, to ensure resident rights are maintained and to improve the
quality of life within the Center.
All concerned families and friends of residents
at St. Mary’s Nursing Center are most cordially invited to attend
these very important meetings.
The last Family Council meeting was held in on
Wednesday, August 6th. Discussions at that meeting again focused on
the effects of the sudden closure of the entire second floor of St.
Mary’s Nursing Center in June, identifying symptoms of Transfer
Trauma, and ongoing issues resulting from the relocation of both
residents and a large number of staff.
The Family Council found no evidence of the
needed counseling of either residents or family members before,
during, or after the move.
Falls due to uneven ground conditions in the
outside areas in front of the building were discussed as were food
issues and the limited activities available in the evenings and on
week-ends.
Items on the agenda for the September 10th
meeting will include the role of the Resident and Family Councils,
the Board of Trustees, the County Commissioners, and others in the
nursing home community, the future of St. Mary’s Nursing Center,
care issues and quality
of life issues.
Any topics of discussion brought to the meeting
by family members will also be included.
We urge all family members and friends of
residents living in St. Mary’s Nursing Center to attend this very
important meeting.
We hope to see you at 6:30 PM on September 10th.

Center Family Council
