( July 5, 2005  LEONARDTOWN ) The area's top civil lawyer, specializing in ambulance chasing and personal injury cases, was stopped once again in a radar trap but this time Phil Dorsey, driving home after a softball game, where the players toss down more brew than score runs, was a little tipsy.
Philip Henry Dorsey III, who is as smart a lawyer as they come, has been a successful developer and is part owner of the local Checker's Restaurants, usually exercises good sense, was instead just like any other redneck in barreling down the road on the July 4th weekend with a snoot full.
Dorsey has been known on many occasions to hire someone to drive him after drinking at bars or parties, but on Thursday, Dorsey, 49, was stopped on Rt. 5 in Leonardtown by St. Mary's Deputy Milton Pesante for speeding through a radar trap.
When the deputy pulled Dorsey over, he found some bad breath billowing out of the window and decided it was time for the old walk the line routine for the attorney who has had his junior partners represent most of the local drunk driving population at one time or another, a service which he will have to avail himself of very soon.  Cpl. Katherine Dassing reported on Sunday that Dorsey, who is the son of five-term States Attorney Walter B. Dorsey and the namesake and grandson of the late Circuit Court Judge Philip Dorsey, was sent to the slammer to await an appearance before a District Court Commissioner after failing a roadside sobriety test.
The commissioners do not see anyone who is intoxicated which indicates that Dorsey spent some time mingling with many of his clients overnight before he was released.
It is unknown if Dorsey billed any of his clients in the jail for advise he may have given them, which may be voidable bills for unavoidable contact (VBUC) due to Dorsey's alleged intoxicated condition being unsuitable for dispensing legal advise and then charging for same.
Police were called to Dorsey's house in Breton Bay last Christmas after a small gathering hosted by teens with no adults present was crashed by dozens of other teenagers, leaving combatants laying in the lawn with dozens of police officers attempting to stop fights and fleeing cars.  Alcohol abuse continues to be a large problem in St. Mary's County with a large part of the population seeing nothing wrong with drinking and driving.  Dorsey is only the latest person arrested for DWI to be listed in our DWI Hit Parade, which has included over 35,000 names since 1990.
