MAJOR TRAFFIC SHIFT TO OCCUR NEXT WEEK IN MARYLAND

Affects Motorists Traveling from MD 210 North to Capital Beltway East (Outer Loop) On or Around Monday, Oct. 25th

Drivers Will Be Detoured to New Ramp from Oxon Hill Road Eastbound

The entrance ramp from MD 210 North (Indian Head Highway) to the Capital Beltway East (Outer Loop) will close for approximately one year starting as early as next Monday, October 25th. Travelers will now use a new ramp located off of Oxon Hill Road (MD 414) Eastbound, immediately past the Oxon Hill Road and MD 210 Intersection. To access this detour, northbound drivers heading for the eastbound Beltway will:

  1. Continue traveling just under an additional ½ mile on MD 210 North, past where they previously exited.
  2. Turn right onto Oxon Hill Road heading eastbound.
  3. Turn immediately left (approximately 800 feet away) onto the new detour ramp to the Beltway (Outer Loop) via a signalized left-turn lane. The new ramp is located west of the Forest Heights Baptist Church and across from the Best Western Potomac View Hotel.

The traffic shift is scheduled for implementation on Monday, October 25th following the morning rush hour. Maryland State Police will be present to assist with the transition during the day and throughout the early stages. People who travel this route regularly should take the upcoming traffic changes into account and plan accordingly.

To minimize the unavoidable inconvenience that this detour will place on Maryland drivers, several helpful measures have or will be instituted:

Anticipated to remain in effect for approximately one year, this ramp closure is necessary for the reconstruction of the MD 210 and Oxon Hill Road Intersection, as part of the overall Woodrow Wilson Bridge Project. The new intersection will be grade separated, with MD 210 becoming a flyover ramp over Oxon Hill Road. During the next year, workers will begin rebuilding the ramp from MD 210 North to the Beltway Outer Loop, which includes constructing an 80-foot longer and three-foot higher bridge portion over Oxon Hill Road. G.A. & F.C. Wagman, Inc. is the contractor on this portion of the project.

Drivers are urged to use increased caution and to expect changing conditions, roadway workers and heavy equipment. All construction-related road, ramp and lane closures are subject to change, based on weather and contractor scheduling. Click on www.wilsonbridge.com for the latest information at all times.
