Three in vehicle, One Arrested
OWINGS -- Calvert County Sheriff’s Office reports that Dep. John Harms was assisting Dfc. Todd Smith on a suspicious vehicle call on April 13 at a little after midnight on Keith Lane in Owings. There were three occupants of the vehicle, one of whom was arrested for possessing drugs. Ernest M. Hensley, 25, of North Beach, was arrested for possession of vicodin. The two passengers were released along with the vehicle. Hensley was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center.

Gets Man Arrested
PRINCE FREDERICK -- Calvert County Deputy Dfc. Richard Wilson was on patrol in the Calvert Village Shopping Center located on West Dares Beach Road in Prince Frederick on April 14 at 8:10 a.m. when he observed a green Ford Mustang with a broken driver window behind the Apex Theatre. Upon closer inspection he saw someone asleep in the driver’s seat, later identified as the owner of the vehicle, Raymond M. Stevens, 23, of Chesapeake Beach. Stevens was asked to step out of the vehicle and when he did so, suspected marijuana was in plain view on the driver seat. Stevens was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Slurred Speech Gets
Lusby man Jailed
DUNKIRK -- Calvert County Sheriff’s Office reports that Dfc. Gary Shrawder was on routine patrol on April 15 at 2:55 in the morning operating radar in the area of Md. Rt. 4 and Apple Way in Dunkirk. He conducted a traffic stop near Md. Rt. 4 and Bright Lane on a vehicle that was traveling 60 m.p.h. in a posted 45 m.p.h. zone. The driver, identified as Wayne E. Burgess, 43, of Lusby, had slurred speech and failed field sobriety tests. There were two adults and two minor children also in the vehicle. The two adult passengers were found to have suspected PCP and cocaine in their possession. Burgess was arrested and charged with DWI and possession of drug paraphernalia. The two passengers were also arrested. Kimberly A. Walton, 43, of Prince Frederick, was charged with possession of PCP and drug paraphernalia and Clifton N. Loyd, 45, also of Prince Frederick, was charged with possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia. The children were turned over to Child Protective Services.

Vehicle Strikes House
WALDORF -- On April 17 at 12:34 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to a residence in the 900 block of Barrington Drive in Waldorf for the report of a vehicle that crashed into the house. Investigation revealed Jacob Lemaule Burch, 22, of Waldorf was traveling east on Stone Avenue and was being chased by two other vehicles. He attempted to make a right turn onto Barrington Drive but failed to successfully negotiate the turn. He left the roadway and the vehicle crashed into the house. A building inspector responded and determined the house had sustained extensive damage. The driver and the occupants of the house were not injured. Officer W. Saunders is investigating.

Club Assault
WALDORF -- On April 16 at 2:19 a.m., Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to Club Icon at 2106 Crain Highway in Waldorf for the report of a fight in the parking lot. Investigation revealed Sharaee Eloya Keemer, 26, of Oxon Hill, Md., punched a 25-year-old Washington, D.C. woman in the face during an argument. The victim sustained a swollen lip and was not transported for medical treatment. Keemer was arrested and charged with second degree assault and disorderly conduct. Officer M. Thompson investigated.

Assault on Sheriff
NEWBURG -- On April 15 at 6:58 p.m., Officer A. Schwab of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office observed a suspicious vehicle parked in the middle of the 12800 block of Shiloh Church Road in Newburg. Officer Schwab activated the emergency lights on his cruiser and the vehicle pulled into a driveway. He called for backup and radioed the driver’s information to police communications personnel. They advised the driver was wanted in New York on an outstanding felony arrest warrant. The driver then fled on foot and Officer Schwab gave chase. The driver threatened Officer Schwab with a tree branch. Officer Schwab attempted to apprehend the driver and a struggle ensued, during which Officer Schwab deployed his Taser. The driver continued to struggle and a Maryland Transportation Authority officer who arrived on the scene helped Officer Schwab place the driver under arrest. The driver was identified as Logan Steve Lyles, 42, of Newburg. He was charged with assaulting a police officer, second degree assault, resisting arrest. He was also found to be in possession of cocaine and drug paraphernalia and had a suspended license. He was subsequently charged with possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license.
