Man Seriously Hurt in Crash

Huntingtown, MD - On Friday, July 14, 2006, at approximately 10:15 P.M. Maryland State Police report that a serious personal injury crash occurred on northbound MD Rt. 2-4 south of Ponds Wood Road, Huntingtown.  Police say that a 2003 Honda motorcycle driven by Jason E. Shepard, 24 of Bowie, was traveling north on MD Rt. 2-4 at an excessive rate of speed.  Shepard failed to control his motorcycle swerved out of his lane and struck another vehicle also traveling north.  Shepard struck a 2004 Ford Taurus operated by Mattie E. Weems, 20, of Prince Frederick.   Shepard was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained serious injuries.  He was transported to Prince George’s County Hospital - Shock Trauma by the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad.  Upon impact, Ms. Weems’ Ford Taurus spun around and came to a rest.  She had two passengers in her vehicle but no one was injured in the Ford.

Northbound MD Rt. 2-4 was closed for approximately 1 hour to facilitate the investigation.  Shepard does not have a motorcycle license.  As of this writing, he remains at Prince George’s County Hospital in serious condition.  Charges are pending and police say that Shepard is the at-fault driver.
