Man Uses Backhoe to
Steal ATM;
Deputy Uses K-9 Dog to Retrieve Fleeing Suspect
DUNKIRK— On Feb. 19th, units from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Department
responded to the Bank of America. Upon arrival officers observed an unidentified
suspect operating a backhoe. The backhoe was carrying a large metal box in the
bucket.
The suspect jumped from the backhoe and fled on foot from the scene. Patrol
officers gave chase and released their K-9’s on the suspect. After a struggle
with officers, the suspect was handcuffed. The suspect was identified as
Jonathan James Reid, 43 of Prince Frederick.
The metal box on the backhoe was the ATM which had been stolen from the Bank of
America. Reid was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital and treated for minor
injuries to his left shoulder. Reid was released from Calvert Memorial Hospital
and transported to the Sheriff’s office where he was debriefed by Calvert
Investigative Team investigators.
Reid was charged with Theft over $500.00 and Malicious Destruction of Property
over $5000. Reid is currently being held at the Calvert County Detention Center
on $85,000 bond.
Girl Steals, Crashes Car
WALDORF— On Feb. 19th at 11 AM, Charles County Sheriff's patrol officers
responded to the 400 block of University Drive for a citizen's report of a
single vehicle crash in which the driver fled after striking a tree. While en
route, officers learned the vehicle might have been stolen from a residence in
the 700 block of University Drive. Officer E. Starcher responded to the scene of
the crash and gave a lookout for the suspected driver. Officer C. Shaw observed
the driver, a 16-year-old girl, walking nearby on Fillmore Road. Witnesses
confirmed she was the driver who fled from the vehicle. The owner of the vehicle
confirmed it had been stolen. Officer Y. Austin charged the girl with motor
vehicle theft and released her to a guardian.
