Mary Catherine “Sis” Smith, 76, of Leonardtown, MD, died on Saturday, June 12, 2004 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Leonardtown, MD.

Born on July 17, 1927 in Leonardtown, MD, she was the daughter of the late Everard Guy Ryce and Catherine Elizabeth Pilkerton Ryce. Mrs. Smith was a homemaker.

She is survived by a daughter, Ethel Louise Gainer of Mechanicsville, MD, three sons, Richard L. Buckler of Leonardtown, MD, J. Harold Buckler of Lusby, MD and Donald E. Smith of Leonardtown, MD, four sisters, Agnes Jameson of Hughesville, MD, Virginia Stanard of Winston, CT, Anna Bea Copsey of Mechanicsville, MD and Barbara Jean Buckler of Charlotte Hall, MD, two brothers, Reverend Thomas L. Ryce of Mechanicsville, MD and David W. “Sonny” Ryce of Leonardtown, MD. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Lawrence Raley Buckler, Sr. and Howard Francis Smith, a son, Lawrence R. Buckler, Jr., three sisters, Marie Buckler, Margaret Whithers, Joyce Morgan, and three brothers, Everard Ryce, Jr., Robert Ryce and Webster Ryce.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 16, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A. in Leonardtown, MD. Prayers will be recited at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady’s Catholic Church in Medley’s Neck, Leonardtown, MD. The Reverend John Barry will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Church Cemetery, Morganza, MD.

Serving as pallbearers will be John R. Gough, David W. Himes, Joseph R. Russell, Chris Dennis, Brian Buckler and Wayne VanRyswick. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Logan T. Himes.
