Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Appleby

Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Appleby, 90, of Leonardtown, Maryland died December 29, 2004 in St. Mary’s Nursing Center, Leonardtown, Maryland. Born October 5, 1914 in Dameron, Maryland she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Katherine Cecelia Dunbar Bradburn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Appleby. She is survived by her step-daughter, Linda Bronder of Greensburg, PA, 7 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Mrs. Appleby was preceded in death by her daughters, Louise G. Ridgell, Shirley A. Petterson, and Marian Owens. She was a life-long St. Mary’s County resident and was employed as a Supply Clerk at NAS Patuxent River, MD until her retirement in 1975. She enjoyed reading in her spare time. Prayers will be said on Sunday, January 2, 2005 at 3:00 PM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home where the family will receive visitors from 2:00 to 5:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, January 3, 2005 at 10:00 AM in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home Chapel with Father Damian Shadwell officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Cemetery, Lexington Park, MD. Pallbearers will be Daniel Biscoe, Timothy Biscoe and John Chapman. Contributions may be made to Leonardtown Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 299, Leonardtown, MD 20650 and/or Hospice of St. Mary's, P. O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
