Maryland Democratic Party Raises Record Funds

In First Half of 2005

Maryland Democratic Party Chair Terry Lierman announced today that the Party raised over $700,000 during the first six months of this year.

“The Democratic Party is thriving,” said Lierman.  “Our grassroots fundraising and organizing, at events, on the Internet, and in communities across the State, has generated tremendous support and enthusiasm.”

The $706,754 in contributions that Party has brought in since January 1, 2005 is the highest mid-year total since at least 1998, and the sum exceeds the Party’s entire fundraising effort during 2003, the last non-election year.  In just six months, the Party has also nearly doubled the number of active individual donors.

“Maryland Democrats are energized and excited about taking back the State House and protecting Paul Sarbanes’ U.S. Senate seat,” said Lierman.  “The stakes are extraordinarily high this election cycle.  We are proud to have a growing team of nearly 8,500 individuals making financial investments in our future.  The Party is in a great position.”

The Maryland Democratic Party organization will be bolstered by the many candidates and Democratic organizations around the State that are also running vigorous and successful campaigns, according to Lierman.
