HOLLYWOOD --- Chuck Kimball, of Tall Timbers arrived at Connie Hewlett's home in Hollywood today with a gift from him and his wife July, a thousand dollars.  Kimball convinced Mercantile Southern Maryland bank president Lloyd Harrison to wipe out the $3,500 it had on their books it was holding Connie responsible for as a result of the interstate scam for which she fell victim.

The bank canceled the balance after Kimball struck a deal which involves him making another $1,000 contribution to the Second District Vol. Fire Dept.   A call for comment to Harrison has not yet been returned.  Kimball, a local builder and a U.S. Marine, said he hopes others will find it in their hearts to help Connie too.

"She was hoping to win the lottery and instead she got a big mess," said Kimball, "many of us are able to count our blessings and my wife and I are glad to be able to help Connie and we are going Christmas shopping for her grandchildren tomorrow, they are boys, ages 2 and 6."

Scrooge Sees the Light!
Banker takes the first step to redemption, wipes out debt, but still has funds it took from woman's account...come on, Ebenezer, take the other step!
Hats Off to Mercantile for having a change of heart and being led in the right direction by Connie's Angel, Chuck Kimball....but Mercantile can still give Connie's money back.  She has a $300 a month car payment and cooks for her elderly mother while standing on her prosthetic legs.  Connie is a two-time first prize winner in the Stuffed Ham contest at the St. Mary's County fair.  She was forced to leave her job as a checker at Super Fresh when she lost her legs and now lives on her pension and disability check.

Letter to the Editor:
"A gigantic public relations blunder..."
Mercantile misses the point: this issue is about taking care of your customer, common decency and compassion

Will Baltimore Bank Give Connie Her Money Back?

What the prior Mercantile CEO had to say about banking ethics....

Bah, Humbug!!
Scrooge Harrison, above with the Ghost of Christmas Future, refuses to answer questions anytime before Dec. 22nd as to why his bank cleaned out Connie's money or why they failed to protect her from a bogus cashiers check.  If you have money in Mercantile, take it out until they give Connie's money back.  Boycott Mercantile, its your way to say that out of town banks who treat little people badly don't deserve your business or your respect.
If you bank with Mercantile, close your account and boycott Mercantile until they Give Connie's Money Back!

Scrooge!

What can Mercantile CEO Edward J. Kelly III buy for the $1235.00 he cleaned out of Connie Hewlett's bank account, her disability and pension check that are her sole monthly support and income?
Caviar?
First Class air travel?
Dinner for four at the Four Seasons in Washington?
Champagne?
check out this list and a company profile of this huge financial holding company that bought out the old First National Bank of St. Mary's
While Mercantile Bankshares, the parent company of the Baltimore bank who cleaned out the account of Connie Hewlett, the double amputee who fell for a lottery scam, says it has a right to the $1,235.25 it cleaned out of her account, it's CEO, Edward J. Kelly III won't have too much trouble shopping for Christmas presents.  In fact, according to Forbes Magazine, Edward Kelly III will be able to buy a nice present for the Southern Maryland Mercantile President Lloyd Harrison, the local banking tycoon who has refused to answer questions about what actions his bank failed to take to protect Connie from con-men who told her she had won the lottery.
CEO Kelly makes $1,536,000 this year and at that rate, he can well afford to get by without taking Connie's money, but Kelly also hasn't returned our call to find out why he took Connie's money. Kelly had a nice raise over last year when he made only $1,093,000 in salary.  These figures don't take into account stock options, bonuses, percs or other rewards which make life for a CEO in Baltimore bearable.
