Gunmen Kept Cop Stowed in Trunk During Crime Spree
( SUITLAND March 19, 2005) A retired Prince George's County
police commander is lucky to be alive
after he was abducted at gunpoint, forced into the trunk of his own
car which bandits used to carry out two other robberies.
The suspects carjacked and abducted Major Mark A. Wright, a retired
PGPD lieutenant colonel, before 9 p.m. Friday from 2725 Crestwick Pl.
in Suitland. While in the trunk of his 2000 black Toyota Avalon,
Wright reportedly heard the crooks carry out two more robberies,
including one involving a shooting.
Around midnight police received a call from a woman at 6103 West
Hil-Mar Circle in Suitland claiming that a car was parked in front of
a townhouse and somebody was banging in the trunk.
Police found Wright in the trunk and he declined an ambulance.
Practically the entire on-duty police force, including the sheriff
deputies, continued to search for Wright's abductors into the early
morning hours. The evening shift was kept on to assist the midnight
shift with the search.
One officer described Wright as a devout religious man and one of the
most thoughtful people he had met in the department. "I would search
for free to find him," the officer added. Wright started with PGPD on
March 29, 1976.
