Missing Diver Found Alive
Search Continues for Second Diver

ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. - One diver has been rescued from the water tonight while a search continues for another 30 miles southeast of Bald Head Island, N.C.

The names of the both divers are being withheld. The condition of the rescued diver is unknown.

The two divers were reported missing from their diving vessel at approximately 1 p.m. today.

Once alerted, the Coast Guard launched a 47-foot rescue boat from Station Wrightsville Beach, N.C., a 47-foot rescue boat from Station Oak Island, N.C., and an HH-60 helicopter and C-130 airplane from Air Station Elizabeth City, N.C., to search.

The C-130 aircrew spotted a diver about 9 p.m. and dropped a life raft. The C-130 remained circling overhead while a second helicopter from Air Station Elizabeth City arrived and hoisted the diver from the life raft.

The diver will be flown to awaiting EMS personnel. Coast Guard Cutter Staten Island, a 110-foot patrol boat from Atlantic Beach, N.C., is en route to assist in the search .
