Mother of 3 Slain in Hail of Bullets

At approximately 4:39 pm on Saturday, September 18, 2004, 37-year-old Janet Short, of the 800 block of Barneby Street, SE, was shot in the back while in the 300 block of Seaton Place, NE., according to the Washington, D. C. Metropolitan Police.  A 31-year-old male and 22-year-old male were also shot as they stood next to a car. Ms. Short was taken to the Washington Hospital Center’s MedStar Unit and pronounced dead. The two men were taken to an area hospital with multiple gunshot wounds and admitted in stable condition. Their names are being withheld because they are considered witnesses in this case.

The suspect in this case is only described as a black male in all dark clothing.

The case is under investigation by members of the department’s Violent Crimes Branch. Anyone with information about this case is asked to call police at (202) 727-9099.

The department offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
