Motorist Killed by Wrong
Way Driver After Super Bowl

SUNDERLAND --- A Ford Ranger pickup truck headed north on R. 2/4 near the intersection of  Rt. 2 was traveling the wrong way in the southbound lanes of the highway and struck a 1989 Ford Tempo head-on, killing the driver of the car, in what police believe is an alcohol-related crash.
“We believe alcohol was involved here on the part of the driver of the truck, and the states attorney is reviewing the case for charges,” Calvert Sheriff Mike Evans told ST. MARY’S TODAY.

The 2002 truck was operated by Mark K. Hirshman, Jr., 27, of Clinton who was flown from the scene by Maryland State Police Med-Evac helicopter to P. G. Shock Trauma, according to the Calvert Sheriff’s Department.

The operator of the car which was on the proper side of the highway and was killed was identified as Aaron A. Mayhew, 23, of Beltsville.   He was taken by Dunkirk Vol. Fire and Rescue Squad to Calvert Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
