Navy Dedicates Flag at Park Ribbon-Cutting

LEXINGTON PARK --- United States Navy retired Chief Petty Officer Joe Shepherd was honored Tuesday during a flag dedication ceremony at Nicolet Park, on Bunker Hill Drive, Lexington Park.

St. Mary’s Board of County Commissioners were on hand to hold a ceremonial ribbon-cutting to mark the completion of "Phase II" of the Nicolet Park improvements. The ribbon cutting signaled the completion of $1.9 million in improvements to the 35-acre park, which contains a nationally recognized skateboard park.

"It was nothing but a rock pit," Board President Tommy McKay (R. Hollywood) recalled the park area from his childhood. "But it has really transformed into something."
