| BALTIMORE, MD (September 3, 2004) -Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr.
announced today that the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) will introduce additional
commuter bus service between southern Maryland and the Washington, D.C. area beginning
Tuesday, September 7. The new route, Commuter Bus number 913, will pick-up
passengers at three locations: the south Potomac Church in White Plains, the US 301 Park
& Ride in Waldorf and at the Mattawoman-Beantown Park & Ride in Waldorf. The
service will deliver riders to the Branch Avenue Metro Station in Prince George's
County. "The residents of Southern Maryland have always shown tremendous support of the MTA's commuter bus service," said Governor Ehrlich. "As ridership continues to grow, adding another express commuter bus route in Charles County makes sense. We want to relieve any overcrowding on our other Southern Maryland commuter routes and continue to improve the customer experience for all those choosing to take transit between the Southern Maryland counties and the Washington area." A $1 introductory fare for 913 service will be offered through October 29. The fare will increase to the standard commuter bus fare of $3.50 each way beginning November 1. Service will be provided every 30 minutes from 5:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. to the Branch Avenue Metro Station and from 3:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. from Branch Avenue Metro to Waldorf. "The MTA is excited about providing additional capacity for our southern Maryland commuters," remarked Transportation Secretary Robert L. Flanagan. "Customers on the new commuter Route #913 can leave the driving to us! The commute between Southern Maryland and the Washington region has never been easier." The new service expands the number of Southern
Maryland commuter bus routes to six. |
