Leonardtown Teacher Suspended Over Allegations That He Had Consensual Sex with Student
LEONARDTOWN ---  A Leonardtown High School teacher has been suspended from teaching pending the outcome of a civil suit.  The lawsuit has been brought by a young woman who had an affair with her male teacher, several years ago, as alleged in the suit, according to sources. The school system may not have reported the incident to law enforcement authorities at the time but now is forced to take action even though the student involved is now an adult. Criminal charges could still be in the works for this teacher and allegations that the school system covered up this crime and failed to report it to police are being investigated.

Scene of Rt. 235 wreck across from Capt. Leonard's Crabhouse on Tuesday.
ST. MARY'S TODAY photo by Tim Twigg

Rt. 235 continues to pile up more wrecks, particularly at this intersection of Rt. 6 and Rt. 235 at Oraville, where as many as 16 legal maneuvers can be accomplished. Most wrecks at this intersection take place due to drivers failing to yield the right of way.  Such errors can have fatal results, such as one
two years ago in which a teenager pulled out from Rt. 6 in front of a southbound dump truck, killing three people.  The dump truck was found to be doing the speed limit and was not at fault. The State Highway Administration has failed to take any corrective action along the Rt. 235 / Rt. 5 corridor, from California to Charlotte Hall, while serious and fatal wrecks take place nearly every week.

The Piney Point Light House Keeper's Quarters would make a perfect museum but the dunderheads running the museum instead rent it cheap, at only $900 per month, to a local lawyer as his bachelor pad.  Equivalent waterfront homes would rent for at least $2,500 a month. A proposal to turn the Keeper's Quarters first floor into a museum and the second floor into a bed and breakfast has yet to be acted on by St. Mary's County.
