Maryland to Latinos:
GET LOST!

(Adios Muchachos!)
wpeC2.jpg (8443 bytes)
Pay it again, Sam...or Senor
Not only do Point Lookout's heavy-handed rangers boost visitors to the park fees to enter, but, God forbid if they run out of bait and want to go back to a local store to get some peeler crab, squid or more bloodworms at Ricks Marine, or pick up some fried chicken from Raleys Market, they have to pay all over again!  The sign above is in English and Spanish, erected since Latinos in the DC area discovered Point Lookout's beauty.   Signs have never been posted in Vietnamese, Chinese or Korean despite large numbers of those ethnic groups using the park. Families have been kicked out of the park when only some members of the family were fishing but some, like older family members or kids, were not.  The park superintendent denies this policy but visitors to the park report that it has happened to them.
Why is the DNR Charging Fees for Using Point Lookout Fishing Pier?
The Maryland Saltwater Fishing License program was started to create funds to build fishing reefs and fishing piers, complete with parking, now the DNR is charging for the use of the pier at Point Lookout, charging to park vehicles in the parking lot for the pier and it's only a matter of time before they install a pay option for the toilet. The fishing license program was started to fund these improvements for the use of people to fish without any further charge.  Prior to this time, the God-given right to fish saltwater was free.wpeC0.jpg (9309 bytes)
This sign erected years ago may soon come tumbling down due to a new policy shown on the sign below, erected by DNR at the entrance to the fishing pier.

wpeC1.jpg (12263 bytes)
This is the third sign ordering that those fishing on the pier already paid for by license fees, and paid again and again every time a person buys the annual license to fish in Maryland waters, dig into their pockets once again.  The charging for the use of the pier is another of a series of efforts implemented by DNR to drive out Asians and Mexicans who come to the park from the Washington area.
