Norris Jay Hanks, Col., U.S.A.F. Retired, 77, of Hollywood, Maryland died on Monday July 26, 2004 at his residence.

He was born on February 19, 1927 in Marysville, Michigan to Norris and Mary Wickham Hanks. Col. Hanks was in the Air Force for 28 years having served in World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam, retiring in 1978 as a fighter pilot and a test pilot. He was the recipient of many decorations and service medals including the World War II Victory Medal and two Bronze Service Stars.

He is survived by his children David E. Hanks of West Hills, CA and Gail B. Peters of Richmond, VA; brother, William Wickham Hanks of Fairfax, VA and three grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Col. Hanks was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years Mary Elizabeth Keating Hanks and son, William Norris Hanks.

A graveside service will be held on Friday August 13, 2004 at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA at 11:00 a.m. where he will receive United States Air Force honors.
